New Compiere Enterprise Edition and 3.5 Release

Introducing Compiere Warehouse Management

Today Compiere began shipping the industry's first comprehensive Warehouse Management System (WMS) developed on an open source platform. Compiere Warehouse Management helps companies increase visibility into warehouse operations, reduce costs and improve customer satisfaction by automating inbound and outbound logistics within the warehouse.

Compiere Warehouse Management is an ideal product for distribution, retail and manufacturing businesses that are seeking better control over their warehouse operations. Specsavers chose to work with Compiere to develop a WMS that would improve productivity throughout its global warehouse operations.

Compiere 3.1 Spotlight: Updated Technology Stack gives users more options

Compiere 3.1 adds support for new platform technologies and compatibility with the latest database, middleware and browser technology. New products now supported on Compiere 3.1 include: Sun Java JRE 6, JBoss 4.2.2, Oracle 11g, EnterpriseDB Postgres Plus 8.3, Mozilla Firefox 3.0 and Google Chrome. Compiere 3.1 continues support for Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems, Oracle 10g database, Internet Explorer 6 and 7 and Firefox 2 browsers.

Compiere 3.1 Spotlight: New Business View Layer Opens Compiere to 3rd Party Analysis Tools

The new Business View Layer (BVL) feature in Compiere 3.1 enables report designers and data analysts to access Compiere business data externally from a new, optimized schema. By constructing Business Views from Compiere entities like tables and views - and then publishing them to the new BVL schema, designers may access information externally in a format that is secure, readable and easy to understand.  Information accessed from the BVL schema respects all Compiere role and user based security. The Business View Layer abstracts the complexity of both database relationships and application security inherent in 3rd party data access.

The BVL publishes data applicable to and tested with many analysis tools, such as Jasper Reports, Crystal Reports and Microsoft Excel. Tight integration is available with Jasper Reports and Crystal Reports, allowing users to create a report based on the new Business View, then save the report template and make it directly accessible from your Compiere main menu.  Running these reports from within Compiere respects the security of the Compiere user that is running the report.

Which Compiere Edition is Right for Me?

One of the questions I hear most from companies evaluating Compiere is “which Compiere edition is right for my business?” Prospective customers are not sure if they should go with Compiere Community Edition, Compiere Standard Edition or if they would benefit more from going with Compiere Professional Edition. Well, the answer is: it depends. Each company is different, and as such their needs are different.

The Compare Editions page on the Compiere web site is an important resource for choosing between Compiere editions.  All three Compiere Editions are listed side-by-side along with the services, features and benefits of each edition.

A similar and frequently asked question is "which edition is most popular with customers?" Since we introduced a premium service level and the Web User Interface as part of Compiere Professional Edition in December 2007, the majority of new customers have opted for this premium offering.
